Party Officers

BETTY POTEET, CHAIR

Born and raised in Gibson County, Betty retired after 37 years working at the Milan Army Ammunition Plant.  She is married to Grover Poteet, a retired Army Sergeant Major.  They have three children and five grandchildren.  Betty is a lifelong Democrat beginning her work with the Party during Congressman Ed Jones’ campaign, leading to her work with Congressman John Tanner’s campaign in 1988.  She also worked to support Governors Ned McWherter and Phil Bredesen.  She has been hard at work for our state and local Democratic leaders during thatt ime as well. Betty continues her hard work during this, her second term as Chair of the Democratic Party of Gibson County.  She has been blessed to have met President John F. Kennedy during a visit to the White House in 1962 and will be attending a dinner hosted by President Barack Obama this year.

JOHN FINERAN, VICE CHAIR

John is currently the Postmaster for Rutherford, TN and has been in federal service withthe US Postal Service for over 30 years.  A lifelong Democrat, John has been active in local elections for years.  He has also had a distinguished career in the US NAvy, serving from 1973 through 1979 as a Radar Intercept Officer (RIO) in F-4 Fighter aricraft.  John has over 1100 flying hours to his credit during his service.  He had one assignment with the Aircraft Carrier Franklin Delano Roosevelt and trapped 128 carrier landings during that assignment.  He also completed the Prestigious Top Gun competition twice during his career.

JANIE ALBRIGHT,  SECRETARY

Janie’s first experience with the Democratic Party came at the young age of 10 when her Mother ran for an elected position in her home county in TN.  Later, she hit the grassroots path in 1962 Campaign with young people for Frank G. Clement, running for Governor of TN.  Joining the Gibson County Young Democrats in 1973, Janie has been active since that time and now serves for the second term as Secretary for the Gibson County Democratic Party.   An educator/administrator for 39 years with advanced degrees, Janie’s highlight as a Democrat was when she was elected as a delegate to the National Democratic Convention for the 8th Congressional District of TN when Tennessean Al Gore and Bill Clinton were nominated and later became Vice President and President of the United States.  Janie was also privileged to attend the Inauguration of President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore as a special guest.

ARLAND HOLT, TREASURER

Arland has been married for 51 years to his wonderful wife Doris who is also a very active member of the Democratic Party.  He is an active member of the Salem United Methodist Church of Rutherford, the American Legion, and the Naval Enlisted Reserve Association.  Arland retired from the Navistar International Truck and Engine Corporation, formerly the International Harverter Company with 30 years of service.  He served a long and distinguished almost 40 years with the US Naval Reserve, 20 years of which were with a Flight Squadron followed by a Transport Squadron.  Arland served over 1000 hours as Loadmaster for a Navy C-118 and over 5000 hours as Crew Chief for a Navy C-9 Transport Aircraft.  He was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, the Navy “E” Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, and two Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbons among other awards for service and outstanding performance of duty.  He retired as an Aviation Machinist Mate Senior Chief.  Arland has faithfully served as the Treasurer of the Gibson County Democratic Party for ten years.
